Here are a couple of juicy new oil paintings by Aaron Smith. These will appear in his upcoming solo show at Sloan Fine Art: "Coterie of the Wooly-Woofter". Looking good! I love the way that he handles the paint and his selection of subject matter. Wish I could go.

The album is called "Black Blues in the Segregation Era". It's put out by Document Records. Amazon.com has an MP3 that you can purchase of a song on this album called the "Mysterious Coon" .
My band, The Hokum Scorchers, did their own version of this song in 1990 with Lou Reimuller singing and playing a National guitar and a National mandolin. I played washboard on this tinpan alley style song.
It was originally recorded by a group of musicians in 1928 from Mississippi (in Atlanta, GA) called "Alec Johnson and his Band" - Alec sang vocal, accompanied by Bo Chatmon & Charlie McCoy, Joe McCoy.
I posted this blog entry a few years ago, but this morning I uploaded the song to my tumbler because I had a request for it:
Have a listen to the "Mysterious Coon" done by the Hokum Scorchers.

Sketch by Amy Crehore May 2011
I made this sketch last night called "Blue Whale Cove". I'm going to try painting on a piece of wood this time. I already have a unique gold frame and I cut the wood to fit it. The frame will determine the direction of the color scheme this time, as I want it to become part of "the whole".

"A Little Escapade" by Amy Crehore 2011 (click to enlarge drawing)
Someone told me that they really liked my preliminary drawings, so I thought I would show you the two pencil drawings that I did for my new paintings. "A Little Escapade" totally morphed into something different when I painted it. Also, here are some quick digital shots of how these paintings looked framed before I shipped them off to the NEW BROW IV show in Seaside, CA. (Opens Friday May 13, 2011) More info about this show in a previous post.

Jean-Gabriel Domergue (1889-1962) "was a French painter specialising
in portraits of Parisian women. In the 1920's Domergue invented a new type of woman : thin, airy, elegant, with a swanlike neck. 'I invented the pin-up, he later claimed."
